"1. College Football is the only sport that doesn't have a playoff.
    2. Host bowl cities would have increased revenue by hosting multiple playoff games.
    3. Division 1AA and II already have a playoff, simply follow their model. These schools have true student athletes and still have a playoff.
    4. Current system promotes pounding your opponent. Where is the sportsmanship in running up scores to increase your poll votes.
    5. End all the debating and just play. Anyone who knows football, knows the game is about match-ups, strategy, and not turning the ball over. Upsets happen all the time. Stop debating who beat who by how much, strength of schedule, and common opponents."

Let the players on the field, and not the computers or somebody's opinion decide whom is, or who is not, the best team in the nation."

"Teams with zero or one loss are indeed left out at times by the BCS system, which is entirely unfair. But single game playoffs are also unfair to teams that exceedingly proved their worth throughout the season. As the NCAA basketball tournament (commonly known as March Madness) shows, very seldom does the #1 or #2 team of the regular season actually win the tournament outright.

So I think it would be fair to have a 6-team playoff, much like an NFL conference playoff setting, where the regular season's 1 and 2-seeds get first round byes. This would reward the best teams, while also giving teams who may have had a single slip up another shot. With how few games exist in the football season, it's really hard to determine who deserves a top 5 or top 10 spot at times, so every top team (not necessarily one from each of the six power conferences) should have a shot at the title."

"Because, simply put we will never have a real champion until we do. Even the years my team claimed the title they are not real cause a team needs to earn a championship by playing the best of the best not the absurd votes and computer rankings #1. Does anyone argue that the GIANTS were champs this year or Green Bay the year before? You name the year that a team deserved it and I'll name the year the exact opposite logic was used to decide who deserved a shot at these "BCS" games. Tell a TCU fan their undefeated season over Big Ten champ wasn't good enough but LSU's 2 loss season was and standby for verbal assault. USC has been pushed aside, Boise, Texas, just to name a few. Using the logic from last year I'll bet theirs a dozen teams that would like to have a Mulligan for playing a team and losing.. anyhow one day play on the field will decide a champion until then all we have is records cause the rankings are fun but mean very since wins and losses mean such very different things depending on your conference."

With a playoff system it could increase the numbers of fans that go to each game it could also increase the number of pro scouts at each game because it will help increase the numbers of tackles interceptions FF and FR for the defense gives the backs more yards running more touchdowns help the QB get more TDs completeion % up a little more and more yards help the receivers get more receptions and tds as well so in all there are alot more Pro's than Con's in this situation"

"It's the conferences stupid! Or should I say the stupid conferences that are the problem. With all the transition in the conferences it is the perfect time to implement eight 14 team conferences. Then keep the rivalries the same. The 8 conference champion teams play 4 current major bowl games (Rose, Cotton, Sugar and Orange) without adding games you create a final 4. You only need three additional games to determine a Champion. No polls, no computers no undefeateds getting screwed. The games are determined on the field. Play the 2 semi-finals say the Fiesta (Rose/Cotton winner) in AZ and the Sugar/Orange winners in Atlanta 2 weeks later. Then play the championship game Saturday night of the weekend before the Superbowl. Only three additional games and the regular season actually matters more than it does now."

It's so unfair that I refuse to watch a BCS bowl unless there is a non-BCS team playing. The BCS system is all about ensuring select teams are always empowered. You can take the "C" out of BCS and its name would be more appropriate."

The playoff system interfering with athlete's study is bogus because you have college basketball players who take the same courses play more than twice the games a football athlete... Players on the field controlling their own destiny is the fair and only way to decide. If it is so good why hasn't anyone else picked up on it? Not even Div-2 uses it. "A playoff system would not interfere with the athletes studies because bowl season takes place during their winter breaks anyways. So you can go ahead and take that off the Cons list. This system rewards the teams who play in the big conferences and leaves out everyone else. A playoff system would give us an opportunity to see if those teams like TCU and Boise State should get a shot at the title instead of being left out like they are every single year. You can still have all of your bowl sponsors for all the games you just split up the money for each different round of the playoffs. The whole con part of this article is just crap and can be solved if you just think about and take off your blinders and see the entire picture."

You get better matchups across the entire single elimination tourney. Add in the fact the local economies get the boost from LARGER conference teams playing in thier towns, add in payouts from the games per team/conference becomes GREATER for each team (based on my brackets LSU could earn $43.1 million for playoff if wins out VS $18 million for one NCG ). The FANS want it, the local economies NEED IT, better for ALL schools involved, regular season still has meaning, NONE of this arguing PRO or CON, NO MORE human biases being involved. The BCS championship game was determined the minute LSU beat the tide, and the crying began. Will be have another LSU/Tide game, a best 2 of 3, if the Tide wins? If LSU wins will the Tide get another chance.

Another solution would be for LSU, a truly deserving team, to have been offered a Fiesta Bowl match with OSU (the best two teams in the country). Alabama could have then played Southern Miss at New Orleans. That could have been a game that the dear old Tide would have wanted to avoid.

Again, leave the BCS to the SEC and develop a meaningful championship playoff system for the truly deserving teams."

"A playoff needs to be implemented, bottom line. While there is not true fair system because there are so many factors to consider when trying to rank teams, at the very least, a playoff will give say the top 8 teams a shot of winning the NC. If the BCS is the greatest thing in sports, why is it that no other system is converting to it? Does it mean it only works in DI football, I don't know. I do know that all the cons are hypocritical in their statements.
    1. Athletes love to play and want to play as much as possible. They know the risks of getting hurt each game. More games may increase this risks, but so does getting out of bed each morning.
    2. With a top 8 team playoff, still use the BCS rankings, which still makes every game count.
    3. Still share the revenue with each conference. Who said you can't.
    4. Playoffs are more exciting. If you lose, your out. It's simple. Champions don't have bad days when it's time to get the job done.
    5. Attendance to the BCS Bowl games are high b/c that is all we have. Do a playoff and you will have more attendance.
    6. There is no way for 120 teams to play eachother in the BCS system.
    7. Keep the BCS rankings.
    8. Students and alumni travel without knowing for all other sports."

Teams should be put through a system where the REAL two best teams are the ones that go to the national champoinship. It would be good even if there was a 8 game playoff. I dont know about you guys, but thats the beauty of watching college football because anything can happen. I look foward to upsets all the time! The playoff system would then promote the low seed teams to play harder and dig in. Thus making college football even more competitive then it already is which is a great thing. For instance if you have two teams tied for 2nd and 3rd with 1-2 losses, how is one going to have a better chance of winning than the other one? With a playoff system it replaces that possibility of not making it. Schools would get more money if there was a few more games in the season. It makes it a fair opportunity for non qualifying teams to make it also."

"Yes, but only to prove my theory correct.
I'm waiting to see how long it will take for conference reconfiguration to enter into the final stages of the "Super-conference" structure.
This has been a targeted principle since the 1960's by the tradition rich and deep-pocketed institutions of higher learning who happen to sponser football. The super conference ideology is what essentially led to the formation of the College Football Association (CFA), and the subsequent Board of Regents vs. NCAA ruling in favor of Oklahoma and Georgia (plaintiffs on behalf of the CFA) have given the movement for an Elite college football division traction. (Yes, the BCS also)
I would dislike to see colleges and universities which sponsor a sport I care so much about, inch closer to defying every principled word in their collective mission statements. But it seems inevitable.
I oppose the super-conference theory solely premised upon the fundamental aspect of academic integrity. If the power schools run off to more profitable pastures as presumed, the US Department of Education and IRS should lend a reminder that they are tax-exempt, non-profit institutions of higher learning, not professional sports entities. At least for the moment.
    I"

Teams who did not do that well can get a team the chance to try to get to the National Champinoship game. Teams who do good can get a first round bye in the playoffs. Teams that are not that good can play in the first round and try to win."

The 11 conference champions would all get a spot unless you had 3 or more independants break the top 10 at the end of the season (very unlikely) then the lowest ranking conference champion would be eliminated from the playoff. This would add even more spice to the regular season to either get in the top 10 or win the conference to get in. It validates conference champions, and simultaneously keeps the importance of the polls."

"Interesting yet surprising topic for Pro-Con. The BCS system works well for the BCS conference schools but is a detriment to the non-BCS schools. The gulf between the monies available to BCS vs. non-BCS schools will further the gulf between the two rather than create the parity that the NCAA sought to create with its scholarship limitations in the early 70's. It's a pendulum that has swung too far and will come back I hope. However, the BCS now has more strength (money generation and TV rights bargaining power) than the NCAA. It will be interesting to see where this ends up 10 years from now. My bet is there will be a 4 or 8 team play-off system."

"Playoffs? You're talking about playoffs? There is a playoff system already in place. A Two Team playoff system. If you haven't heard of it it's called the BCS Championship game. But at the end of the day when we look back we realize. Do we even need a two team playoff system. The answer is simple. NO. This Championship game hurts America more than it helps. Everyone whose favorite team isn't in the game has to sit and watch it anyway wishing that their favorite team was better. How do you think this person fells. Well he fells terrible. So we have to get rid of this system already in place and not even talk about making it larger. This is for the best America. You can't let these good teams bully you around playing in these championship games. This will not just fix this problem. It will fix America. And next after this system is demolished I promise. For all of you out there. The Super Bowl will be next. Your Welcome."

They were undefeated because the had to play other small teams just like them! If they are good enough to go undefeated in their small conference then try to move up to a larger conference and you might be suggested to be in the BCS championship."

"The regular season would be watered down to the point where I could no longer watch it. If a playoff does end up passing, then they will probably select four or eight teams for a playoff. Over the years, that number of teams in a playoff has inflated (NCAA Men's Basketball Championship for example). Teams complain about being left out of the BCS bowl games, but what happens when teams are complaining about not being selected for the playoff system? More and more teams will be selected. Eventually, a playoff system could end up being almost every team in the FBS. Look at the New York Giants. No disrespect to them this year, but I really don't like the fact that a team that barely made the playoffs on the final day winning the whole Super Bowl. That's almost like a team like Michigan State all of a sudden playing hot at the end of the year. I believe that a team needs to be consistent at every point in the year. The best team does not end up winning the championship a lot of the time."

"There is already a 2-team playoff. I am in favor of a variable-team playoff. Only qualified teams should be able to play for the national championship. The first qualification should be that the team is the champion of its own conference if it is in a conference. Conferences need to get rid of divisions so that Alabama could have played LSU in the SEC championship game and then played Oklahoma State in the National Championship game. Stanford should have played Oregon in the PAC-12 championship game. If they change to a 4-team playoff, there will still be controversy about who gets selected and soon people will be calling for 8 teams and then 16 teams and then 32 teams until it gets to be like the NFL where teams with a mediocre record are crowned champions. Just because a team beats another team in one game does not prove that the winning team is better. That is why it is important to only allow qualified teams to play for the national championship. There are not always going to be the same number of qualified teams each year. In my research, the greatest number of qualified teams in any year in the BCS era is 7 in 2007. Most years there are about 4. Some years there were only 2 such as 2002 and 2005."

"College football, more than any other team sport out there arguably, is built on a strong sense of tradition. Implementing a playoff system would destroy much of this tradition. Tradition isn't the only thing it would destroy though- it would shatter the hopes and dreams of many great aspiring future pros. More games just means more games that a player can go out and injure themselves. Not only does this cost professional football teams millions because it makes them lose out on prime talent, but it makes the thousands of hours that these young kids practiced all their lives go to waste. Additionally, if the playoff system everybody's talking about were to become a reality, then the level of play in the NFL would surely go down not only in the short run, but the long run too. This would be a shame because I prefer to watch exciting Super Bowls, rather than boring ones."

Sure, we all love our brackets, but average college-basketball attendance for Division I regular-season games is the lowest it's been in a generation. Thankfully, that's not the case in football, where regular-season attendance hit a record high last year. The Bowl Championship Series deserves some of the credit for that, and it deserves all of the credit for delivering a championship game that gets more viewers than the Final Four, the World Series, the NBA Finals, the NHL finals and most other sports."

"Bottom line, there is no absolute fair method, one team or another will always be left out. Until I see a viable playoff system, I'm in favor of the BCS system. It eliminates the possibility of a great team having a mediocre day that gets beat by a mediocre team having a great day - sounds dumb but it happens. Seems every year in March Madness some Cinderella team magically beats a real contender only to get pounded by the next real contender. I would rather see the two real contenders face off. I like the consistency of the whole season being judged by humans and computers - humans because of the emotion involved, i.e. even if the voters don't like a team they will eventually acknowledge the best teams; computers because they crunch the non-emotional numbers, and like it or not, numbers don't lie. If only the conference champs played in the playoff, there would be conference runner-ups that are better than other conference champs, and in the case of the SEC West, there could be two teams that don't make the conference champ game yet are better than the winner of the SEC East. That's just one example of how a playoff system would be just as lacking as the BCS is allegedly. In the mean time, the argument is as much fun as the game."

If you had the top 16, you'd have too many arguments like this one-- #11 Clemson would be in, but #22 Georgia Tech would be out and you would have Tech fans saying, "We beat Clemson by two TD's. We should be in there before them." Plus, if you had only the conference champions involved, that would mean 5 of the top-10 teams in the nation right now would be left out. Does anyone really want to see mediocrity?"

"What people don't seem to grasp is that there will be just as much unfairness with a playoff system. With the current system, any controversy about who should be playing in the national championship is limited to usually no more than 3, possibly 4 teams - meaning only one or two teams that legitimately deserve a chance will be left out. With a playoff system, you simply add to the controversy. With a 16 team playoff, you're going to have teams ranked 17-25 with 2 or 3 losses, believing that they deserve a shot to prove themselves in the playoffs. ONE national championship game doesn't create any unnecessary controversy - if anything, it limits it. The teams with the least blemishes WILL meet for the national championship - unless of course you're Utah or Boise State."
